bucky plays with the inside of his pocket with his left metal arm, feeling another gust of icy wind blow through the street. he shivers slightly, although he is used to the cold, and steps over a crack in the pavement. someone on the left yells out 'oi, you! you still need to pay me back from tuesday!' in russian and bucky responds in russian quietly, saying that he'd pay him back later. the other man snorts and goes back to drinking with his gang. mentally groaning, the halfblood wipes his face with his right hand and lets out a puff of air.
"that's one of the most normal things that happens around here, which says a lot." he says, smirking slightly and listening to chase quietly. "your mom, huh? she sounds like a nice person. i don't mind you rambling." he responds, squinting his green eyes as the weak sun comes out from behind a storm cloud. he smiles a small smile at chase's response to his question, then nods at the turn coming up. "we're getting closer uptown." he says, then turns left and points towards a tall skyscraper. "that's the middle of the city." bucky's left arm now hangs limply at his side, as he completely forgets about it. "so, chase, how long are you staying in the hotel? you can't stay there forever, right?"

i'm carrying your light "Yeah...she is nice," Chase murmurs, half to himself, and for a moment he stares at nowhere in particular. "Really? You don't mind?" he asks, a bit skeptical, since people have said that just to be nice before. "Well, it's your funeral, dude, 'cause I might just talk 'ya to death."
He's glad to know exactly where they are, and looks around to try to remember this spot. It's pretty much useless, since he's already forgotten how exactly they got there, but he makes the effort anyway. "Hey, thanks again for helping me get back," he repeats, just in case he hasn't shown he is grateful enough times already. "I'd literally be lost without you." He's a little prouder of his own joke then he should be, and it's visible by the way he beams for a moment like he's just won some sort of prize for being clever. Of course, he's kind of already made that joke, but still-
"I was only supposed to be here for a little while," Chase starts, rubbing the back of his neck somewhat nervously. Yet, he's been here months already. "Then I was gonna move back home, or somewhere else...I hadn't really thought about it." He probably should, though, he's just been too scared to. The thing is, despite knowing full well he needs some sort of help, Chase doesn't want to let anyone else know that. The last time he got too relaxed around anyone, he'd slipped up and revealed himself; that's why he was in this mess in the first place. He's not ready to risk that again. "I have a friend who lives around here, I think," he lies, and he feels guilty about it, but keeps on going. "I'll talk to him about it." He hopes that Bucky won't see through it, but another, smaller part of him hopes he will. Chase is always a horrible liar when he's lying for himself. LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

bucky merely shrugs in response to chase's skeptical tone, then smirks slightly down at the sidewalk at his next comment. the black swan feels his wings twitch on his back, a signal that they're getting restless and stiff after not using them for a while.
"it's fine, seriously. i don't mind." bucky says, then nearly winces but stops himself at the other's smile. it hurts, and it triggers an immediate hate reaction in the halfblood's brain, initiating a small scowl to appear on the man's face. wide, beaming grins just did that to him. he continues along the path, which then reminds him of the times in his life when he would go with his sister and mother to the market to buy fresh fruit, bread and milk. he shakes his head subconsciously, then tunes back into the current situation. "hm. i nearly know everyone around here - what's your friend's name? is it isaac? god, i hate that guy." bucky says, sensing some kind of untruth in the comment but deciding not to pick at it.

i'm carrying your light Chase has to make an effort not to look a little panicked when Bucky mentions that he knows people around town. Two sentences into his lie and Bucky's already beginning to pick it apart. He struggles to keep acting casual and pleasant, the way he usually does.
"Nah, his name's not Isaac," Chase goes on, digging himself deeper into this hole he's made. He starts to rock back and forth on his feet, looking anywhere but directly at Bucky, and he taps his chin in thought. "It's....Harry," he stumbles for a moment to think of a name, but once he has one, he gets a little more confident with the story. "Yeah. He lives on the other side of town, though. He moved here just a little while before I left home. Somehow I totally blanked on all of it until just now. Oops." Maybe that seems a little convenient, but anyone who knows Chase knows it's not out of the ordinary for him to forget important details like that. The problem now is that Bucky doesn't really know him. Ironic, how Chase is trying not to get close to anyone, yet the fact that they aren't close works against him.
The longer Chase stands there, the worse he feels about lying to Bucky, who hasn't done anything to deserve anything less than honesty. He stops rocking on his feet, instead biting his lip and looking off to the side. Despite his tendency to always be talking, he stays silent. LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

Bucky's left arm resets itself - something that's not unusual, but very inconvenient, as he suddenly can't control it. It goes completely limp, making audible clicking noises as gears shift to remove things like viruses, hackers, and to make the security better. The only people that can break through the security is the HBES, but they're not around and they think he's dead.
The halfblood raises an eyebrow at the name Harry, trying to think. There was a Harry that died a few years back, but he was violent and a drunk. Probably not this happy man's friend. There was also a Barry, who was still alive (or at least that's what Bucky knew). He was quiet, but extremely aggressive. Also not a viable candidate for Chase's friend. "Well, I used to know a Harry, but he died. I know a Barry, though. I don't think either of them are your friend though." he says, stepping to the right to dodge a lamppost in the middle of the pavement.
"Maybe I don't know everyone around here. " Bucky remarks, then stops at a green traffic light. Cars drive past, kicking up dust and newspapers and leaves. The sun dips under another large storm cloud and the world becomes a little colder. The traffic light turns red and the black swan walks across, looking around as the grimy, broken and grey shops of the shacks turn into lush white malls. "Now I'm the stranger around here." he says, feeling the dead weight of his arm hang at his left side.

i'm carrying your light Chase glances for a moment at Bucky's metal arm when it starts making noise, but doesn't ask whether it's okay, since Bucky doesn't really seem disturbed by it. There are a lot of things Chase thinks Bucky should be bothered by that he simply isn't, which is as impressive as it is worrying. At the moment, though, he's a little preoccupied with his own excuses to be distracted by all that for too long.
"Like I said, he's a little newer, and he doesn't live in your part of town," Chase shrugs, still trying to act like he's not making all of this up off the top of his head. "You can't realistically expect to know everyone, there are too many people," he adds, in an attempt to cover up the fact that Harry isn't in Bucky's internal contacts-list.
"That's fine, I know my way from here if you have somewhere else to be," Chase says, though even that isn't completely the truth, either. He doesn't recognize the area by sight, no, but without the stench of alcohol and filth overpowering his nose, he can easily pick up his own trail again, and follow that back to the hotel. "If you have to go at any time from here on out, that's fine. I mean- I wouldn't mind the company but I'd hate to keep you." It occurs to Chase that if Bucky leaves, though, he probably won't ever see him again. Suddenly he feels a little more lonely. LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

Bucky's green eyes are nearly blinded by the next building - a massage place made of entirely white marble with red carpets, green hedges and a huge waterfall out the front. He clears his throat, looking down at the ground, which is now a clean light grey pavement. The sudden change of place makes the halfblood feel dizzy, but he swallows instead and continues along.
"True, true. But I can't help... never mind." Bucky says, then winces slightly as his left arm dislocates and then relocates itself with a loud crack. "Eh. I don't have anything else to do. Besides... I've hardly been in this part of the city. It's nice to check it out again." he says, looking up at a tall office building.

i'm carrying your light Chase only has a moment to panic about the fact that Bucky still seems just a little suspicious before a sudden loud crack assaults his ears. He lets out a small gasp of pain and slaps one of his hands over the ear that had been closest to the sound, wincing at the noise, though it really hadn't been all that loud in the first place. He'd gotten accustomed to a certain level of noise, though, and having not been expecting a crack, of all things, it had taken his sensitive ears by surprise. It only takes Chase a moment to determine what the noise had come from, though, and that worries him more than his ringing ear does.
"...glad to have you," he says, lowering his hand from his ear and offering a weak smile, because truly, he is happy to have Bucky's company, but he's distracted by the fact that he's almost certain arms (even prosthetic ones) are not supposed to make that sound. Ever.
"That sounded painful..." he says, eyeing Bucky's arm warily, expecting it to move or make some other sound again. "You alright?" LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY

Bucky glances at Chase, and something like concern flashes in his green eyes. "You ok?" he asks as Chase suddenly covers his ears. He still doesn't know why the other man is having a sudden reaction to something, like a noise, or... oh. The dark-haired man looks down at his arm as it slows down and eventually becomes a part of Bucky again.
He makes a fist with it and lets out a small sigh, feeling pretty bad. "Eh, I'll live. It's normal for... uh, this," he gestures to his arm, "to happen anyway."

i'm carrying your light "That's...not good," Chase says, somewhat quietly. He knows that he really shouldn't tell Bucky what to do, especially since it's not his business what his arm does, and frankly, he doesn't know much about what prosthetic arms are supposed to be like, but he's still clearly worried about it. "I don't know much but I don't think they're supposed to do that. Maybe you should get it checked?" Secretly, he's more concerned by the way that Bucky is seems used to that sort of pain than the fact that his arm is regularly dislocating itself regularly.
What kind of life must this guy have had? Dislocating your arm is supposed to hurt, a lot, at least, that's what Chase has heard. And yet Bucky barely reacted to it at all. Even if Chase seems like an airhead (and let's be honest, sometimes he really is one) he notices things, and he's noticed a lot of things about Bucky in their short time together. And by themselves, those things don't really mean anything, but when they're put together, they say a lot about Bucky that Chase is pretty sure the other man doesn't want him to know.
Chase only notices the silence that begins to stretch between them when the quiet starts to bother him. There's a reason he's always talking. Quiet gives him room to think, and that's exactly what he wants to avoid when there are so many things to worry about.
"So...why are you livin' around here?" he asks, since he's curious, and because it will break the silence. He can't be living in the area because it's nice, since it certainly isn't, but Bucky has to have a reason for staying in such an awful neighborhood, other than the low rent, right? "Got any friends or family nearby? Work?" LAIKA OF ADOXOGRAPHY
