In order to escape hectic tornado that was his home life, Ronan joined the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of seventeen. His decision nearly killed his mother who feared for his safety and successfully forced him to join the reserves. The army reserves only took up two nights of his week but Ronan was relentless in his study of the military and the schedule of his own training regime. His mother had convinced herself he was off to become a war hero like his father, and took every opportunity to scorn him and put him down.
However, it shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone that Ronan didn't want to be anything like his father. He was simply searching for a way to alleviate his boredom and stay out of the house. Turns out, the Reserves were a different kind of chaos and Ronan found himself getting yelled at and disciplined for the tiniest of things. The more time he spent there, the more reserved and withdrawn he became from other people. He began to care even less of what others thought of him, instead, striving for perfect results and excellence.
Halfway through his first year in the Reserves, Ronan met his future best friend, Private Sarah Mitchell. From the moment she'd greeted him, something about girl drew him. She was far too kind to be in the military and when he told her so she'd simply laughed and said "I can already tell we're going to get along just fine."
And 'get along just fine' they did. Within a few days, they were inseparable at the hip. Private Mitchell in her independent and domineering ways seemed to boss him around quite a bit, but Ronan was always obliged to listen to her. He enjoyed getting along with her and doing things with her as well. Sarah could convince Ronan to do just about anything which led to the relentless teasing of his peers even going so far as to call them both Private Walsh. But Ronan didn't mind so much.
Together he and Sarah completed their two year DPA program and reached Corporal rank. Ronan wouldn't have minded staying within the reserves but Sarah had her eye fixed on another goal, the Canadian Search and Rescue Technician. It took a little talking to convince Ronan and a lot to convince his mother to let him join the regular armed forces.
He was nervous at first to go, especially when so many of his superiors recognized him as his father's son. Ronan almost quit and went home on several occasions, but Sarah dragged him through their final three years there together. The two had been growing so much closer during the time they spent together, but Ronan was painfully aware of one thing that would always keep them apart. Sarah was human and he....wasn't.
After they had completed a total of five years in the army, they both applied for SARTECH. The process to get in was long and arduous, at one point Sarah almost didn't even make it in. But finally, six years from where they'd started they were both certified Search and Rescue Technicians.
Their job was incomprehensibly dangerous, and they almost lost each other several times. During one of their rescue operations, they were sent to rescue a man who had been trapped in a crevasse following an avalanche. They safely made it down to where he lay semi-conscious, but they had no way out. Their rope which had gone brittle in the cold after five hours snapped the moment they tested it.
Ronan hadn't meant for things to turn out the way they did. It was perhaps the stress of reaching their six-hour limit and the relentless cold that had forced him to shift. Sarah had been shocked, to say the least, and even after he had managed to climb the three of them out and return to his normal form, she wouldn't speak to him for quite some time. When the victim regained consciousness, he had been slurring something about a 'big cat'. But thankfully the medics discounted it as some form of PTSD.
After that mission, Sarah and Ronan grew closer than before. She was the only one outside of his family who knew about his secret and she promised she'd take it to her grave. And she did. On her next mission a few months later she was killed while trying to save a man stranded 300 nautical miles from shore. Her partner on that said mission hadn't been Ronan, and he'd never forgiven the man for coming back alive without her.
Without Sarah, Ronan was a changed man. He went rogue, leaving SARTECH behind and seeking refuge in the snowy mountains. It was there, trying to escape a pending avalanche that he discovered Therian, a place he's never left since.
| Personality
Ronan is quiet and withdrawn. He doesn't get along well with others and is independent to a fault. He prefers to do things his own way because it is 'efficient' and can't stand when other people butt in. The man doesn't really like people to begin with and has a very short temper when it comes to dealing with 'idiots'. He considers most people a 'waste of skin' and can be very selfish with his time.
His time in the military has cultured him to be very proper and well-spoken. He has strong leadership skills and has retained his good judgment over the years.
As a [former] SARTECH agent, Ronan is quick on his feet, intelligent, and able to operate calmly under extreme levels of stress. He has a strong moral compass that prevents him from abandoning anyone in need.
After losing Sarah and essentially 'running away', Ronan has developed severe trust issues. He doesn't trust people to do what they say they will whether it means 'be back in five minutes' or 'I can handle it'. Ronan also doesn't trust himself or his abilities which can make for very dangerous situations.
Despite being half-human, Ronan takes after a cat in several different ways. The man is extremely elusive, here one moment and then gone the next. He can be extremely territorial of a specific area, place, or even person. Ronan tends to be very grounded and dedicated towards what he believes in and will remain loyal to a single cause for a very long time.
Therian
Ronan is usually a human by day and Black Panther by night. The massive cat stands around 2.5 feet at the shoulder and weighs roughly 150 pounds. With a well-muscled build and a sleek black coat, Ronan is beautiful but not the friendliest looking animal on the planet. His panther is true to its nature and is often driven by pure instinct. That being said, Ronan is incredibly elusive in this form and should you find him (or he finds you), he will either rescue you or kill you.
Appearance
For as long as he can remember, it has been Wash tradition to forbid any man or woman above the age of eighteen to cut their hair. Ronan couldn't be bothered to discover why his mother simply always said 'your father would know more about it than I do'. Considering his father is dead, he has simply accepted it as one of those things about his heritage he may never know.
His onyx hair falls just above his waist and has a purplish tint to it. If asked, he'll likely tell you it's just the lighting or maybe that it's been dyed. Ronan is hard-pressed to actually admit the indigo hue is entirely natural. After all, who in the 'real world' would believe him?
Ronan isn't entirely picky about his appearance, but his hair is something he prunes often. It is perhaps because it might be equivalent to his pelt which he also keeps in sparkling form. Often he ties his hair back to keep it out of the way, seldom braiding it or putting it in a bun for work purposes.
Despite his unnaturally long hair, Ronan's features are surely masculine. His features are sharper than most peoples, his eyes taking an angular form that may be attributed to his feline heritage. He has a well-defined jawline and keeps a clean-shaven appearance at all times.
His eyes, like many blessed with the azure hue, are known to change color with his mood, temperature, and lighting. Most often they are a pale green color with a hint of silver that gives them a rather hard edge. However, his driver's license and almost every piece of ID he owns claim them to be a dark nearly onyx blue.
No matter the weather outdoors, Ro often dressed for cold weather given the amount of time he spends at high altitudes. It's not uncommon for him to be wearing a jacket and scarf in the middle of the summer time and he finds it quite comfortable being unreasonably warm.
He wears a collar that once belonged to his father. The brown leather had a reddish tint and is starting to wear beneath the silver plate that reads ' Ronan Walsh'. The collar is one of the only moments Ronan has from his father, and he prefers to keep it hidden beneath a scarf or jacket. | Details
