Okay, so there had been some fighting going on in Anria's life lately. She had been battling goat mutants and stubborn canine shifters. Those wars had both ended in a tie, and she wasn't used to such events. Even the HBES, in small quantities, were no mach for her and a few throwing knives. But these Haven residents, these real, honest, therian people, were challenging her. Not that she didn't like a challenge. But then there was another person she was battling. Well... she told herself it was a person. Since Anria had met Edessa Elridge , she had been struggling with maintaining a cold-hearten, isolated attitude. So, Anria had blamed her conflicting feelings on Laura, rather than embracing a change of personality. Now Anria was working her - ahem - butt off, with flying kicks, multi-rotation flips, and plenty of sweat. She heard the door open behind her, and Anria paused, running her hand across her forehead then up across her bright red hair, pulled tight into a ponytail. Her face darkened, and she put her hands on her hips. She couldn't have been less self conscious in her tight black sports bra and workout shorts. "Laura... Come to curl up and cry next to a dummy?"

So, why are we at the gym again? We're here to do some push-ups and sit-ups! No, really, why are we here? Hardy har har. Very funny. You know that we're here to toughen you up, you just aren't ready to accept it yet. The first stage of grief: Denial. That's what you're going through. Joke's on you, Skye. I'm not working out- not even if my life depended on it. Yeah, Skye, you heard her. Laura's not going to work out, even though you want her to. Laura has the ultimate control here and you're just going to have to deal with it. Gah, bright colours up ahead!
Laura opened the doors to the gym and the first thing she laid eyes on was Anria's vibrant red hair.
"Laura... Come to curl up and cry next to a dummy?"
She felt her face get hot and a wrathful mood fall upon her. Laura knew that Skye was in control, but frankly she didn't care. Knowing Skye the best of anybody, she knew Skye was probably going to try and teach Anria a lesson. Then Laura would get hurt because Anria was much more powerful than she was, and Skye would learn not to open her mouth again. That was how the story always seemed to go with Skye.
"Actually, I did come to cry. I remember my grandma was diagnosed with cancer and only had six months to live right around the time the HBES invaded my hometown. And the end of the six months would be around now..." Laura thought of kittens dying and managed to get herself to cry. She threw her head into her hands, hoping for a response- or at least, Skye was hoping for a response. She suddenly whipped her head up, and feeling the rage running through her body she assumed her eyes were red. She lunged towards the direction she remembered Anria to be at last and threw a hook punch to her solar plexus.
I know I'm probably going to get hurt, but I hope this teaches Anria a lesson for badmouthing...

Anria rolled her eyes. If Laura had been looking for sympathy, she shouldn't have come to the fiery red-head for certain. "Lucky grandma. At least she got a normal death. That's more than most people can say nowadays." Bored with the crying, she turned to the punching bag she had been demoralizing seconds ago and flattered it with more bone-shattering blows and lightning fast kicks. Sky may have been aggressive, but she was hardly a threat. In one solid motion, Anria whipped around, batted away the punch, and threw her hand up to Laura's throat. Then, raising Laura in the air briefly, Anria slammed the younger girl down to the the ground on her back on a soft training mat. "Cute trick. Try winning next time," Anria sneered, standing up to leave Laura laying there. The punching bag was swinging on a chain fastened to the ceiling, and Anria slowed it with a gloved hand. She then, sensing a conversation was to begin, began unraveling the bands wrapped around her wrist and knuckles. "So why are you really here, Miss Flippancy?"

Just as she was being lifted into the air, Laura's eyes changed back to their normal shade. She lay limp in Anria's hand. But upon her impact with the mat, she felt a sting go up her spine and a thud in her head.
"Cute trick. Try winning next time."
Laura scoffed, stood up slowly, and brushed herself off. She started to walk towards the door and stopped when she heard Anria's voice again.
"So why are you really here, Miss Flippancy?"
"Well, I did want to just talk with you, but I couldn't with your hand to my throat. Maybe I'll try again later when you're acting less like a brat." Laura scoffed and rolled her eyes, slightly angry at her friend's behaviour. Sure, she had thrown a punch, but that was only because of Anria's comment. Had her friend not been in that mood, she wouldn't have said what she said, and Skye wouldn't have taken control of Laura and gotten her hurt. Now, not only was her back hurting, but her feelings were as well.
She continued to walk towards the door. When she reached the door handle, she stopped, having a slight hope that Anria would apologize. But then again, it was Anria. She opened the door...

"Well, I did want to just talk with you, but I couldn't with your hand to my throat. Maybe I'll try again later when you're acting less like a brat." Anria pressed her hands against her heart all balled up, faking a wince. "Oooh. That hurts," she cried, then laughed. "A brat? Wow. That's somethin', I have to tell ya'. Quite painful." She watched Laura hesitate at the door before opening it, enjoying every second of Laura's obvious anticipation. "Okay, okay. C'mon, Petulant," Anria sighed at last. "I've been saving the rest of Haven's hides for some time now, and it couldn't hurt to chat." You should thank me. I'm the reason the... the HBES haven't slaughtered us yet." She rubbed her shoulder, where a bandaged concealed a nice gash inflicted by a sword-wielding maniac. If Anria knew that Laura considered her a friend, she probably would have skinned her alive then and there for everyone to see. The idea of friendship scared her half to death. That aside, Anria flopped down on a bench, plopping her knees on the bench and resting her elbows on her knees with a look of half-real interest. "How can I be of use to you today? Need someone filleted? Perhaps help hiding a body? Or maybe- Oh, whoops..." she winked, giggled sinister, "Forgot who I was talking to."

Laura rolled her eyes at Anria's seemingly dramatic state. She shut the door, not wanting to be rude and walk out on the situation, even though Anria deserved it.
"What do you mean? Why should I thank you for something that doesn't even make sense?" Laura sat on a bench and waited for a reply, ignoring Anria's comments about killing and dead bodies. She sat on the bench, watching Anria, intent on getting a response, just one valid reason why Anria of all people should be thanked.

"Doesn't make SENSE!?" Anria gasped, shaking her head in disappointment. "You'd think a fellow therian of mine would understand the HBES." She leaned over, hands on knees to level with Laura. "What's the worse pain you've ever felt? A papercut? A shot at the doctor? Maybe a broken bone?" She smirked, her eyes glazed over as her mind wandered into sinister territories, haunted by hurtful memories and horrific ideas. "You'll be wishing that was all you had to endure if I can't stop the monster hunting us. I'm sure you remember them. We all do. But some of us have to face them every day. Some of us," she gestured a red-manicured finger to her own face, "Have to protect the spoiled brats who don't realize that maybe, just maybe, there's more to life than broken hearts." With that, she flopped down on the bench, having been unaware that she had stood and begun pacing, an nestled her head in her hands. Her voice was soft now, after that irregular rant that was near impossible to follow. "Some of us just want a break once in a while from our own confused lives."
