if we fall apart then it was our favorite dream Anria Liana a chilly gust of air hit edessa's face as she broke off another piece of stale bread and tossed it at the mere two ducks near her. One of the ducks, the plumper of the two to be precise, had distanced itself from edessa by putting a few feet between the two of them. the other one, a gorgeous all-white duck with a bright orange bill, had plopped itself down next to edessa on the bench, happily feeding on crumbs that fell onto her lap. edessa studied the ducks a bit more, thinking about how happy they must be. although most days she was cheerful, edessa would occasionally be haunted by the events that had taken place six months earlier on mount torture with anria. she would never be able to forget the sharp pain in her chest as she flew through the air and the nauseating thud she heard and felt as her head hit the rock. she had stumbled home as if she were in a dream, trying to call out to laura and skye. they weren't there, and they would never be there again. whether it was to spark an argument or put some pep in laura's step, skye's fiery spirit was gone. and when it was time for doubt-provoking thoughts to be introduced to halt skye from making a bad choice (even though skye would likely make that bad choice anyways), laura's bashful spirit was gone. even though edessa had been going to therapy ever since the incident, she still found herself crawling back to her therapist each time, almost more broken than she was each time before. edessa stood from the bench as she realized the bag that once held half a loaf of bread was now empty. she pulled up her right sweater sleeve to reveal a gorgeous guess watch she bought last week. the time read 5:25. it's almost time for dinner. maybe you can go out to a restaurant and treat yourself? after all, the therapist said you should do something nice for yourself. plus, it's getting dark anyways. edessa thought, smiling slightly. she heard crunching of footsteps and turned around to see who it was; when she saw, she cowered a little, taking a few small steps back.

[googlefont="Griffy"][googlefont="Abel"] SEARCHING IN THE DARKNESS WE ARE CREATURES OF THE NIGHT RUNNING FROM THE DAY Anria's boots crunched over the miracle-white snow. Around her the trees whispered as their branches, like little wooden bells, swayed in the wind. She was cold, dressed merely in a sweater she had picked out of the bottom of her closet and a pair of jeans, and she hadn't even considered bringing a coat. Not that she didn't think she wouldn't be cold. She just hadn't been thinking straight, not since everything happened. Anria's thoughts drifted as the wind did against her reddened cheeks. She thought of Elodie, a new Haven member who had revealed herself to be human only to Anria, but had been hurt by the horrified look Anria had made in response. She thought of Alec, whom she had met only a few times, each time spilling her heart out and completely at a loss when it came to understanding what she felt around him. And she thought of a foggy mountain, spinning thoughts, and- Anria shivered and shook her head. She wasn't sure where her feet we leading her, but she was walking and at least she was out of the house. People always said, or at least Anria thought they did, that getting outside could help to clear one's thoughts. But that hadn't seemed to be true, because Anria still couldn't seem to forget six months ago at the top of Mount Torture. Lost in her own thoughts, Anria didn't notice she had wandered down the path towards the pond. That wouldn't have been such a problem if she didn't mind chatting. But this would not be a forgiving day, for at the end of the path was another therian. A rather familiar looking therian... Anria stopped dead in her tracks, frozen standing in the snow, a moment away from turning tail. Laura- er, Edessa - stood and swiveled around. She clearly recognized Anria's unmistakable red hair, because she immediately started backing away. Anria, still alarmed, stood gaping, her vision spinning as all those feelings and memories she had been suppressing welled back up. Edessa looked just as horrified as she felt. And suddenly Anria felt an unfamiliar but compelling force to calm her down, to make her okay, to save her younger sister who had died all those years ago... Anria blinked, back in the present. "E-Edessa... Wait, please.. I'm... I'm not going to hurt you, please." The desperation and pain in her voice was more genuine than anything she had said or felt in the last four months.

if we fall apart then it was our favorite dream "E-Edessa... Wait, please.. I'm... I'm not going to hurt you, please." edessa wanted to take off running. she didn't want to be stuck in the confrontation she had been mentally training for in therapy for months. every day she came in to her therapy sessions broken, and she left feeling confident- confident in herself, confident in the fact that if a problem with anria ever occurred, she could fix it. but now she was actually in the problem and she had no clue how to fix it. edessa's hands fumbled to the back of her head and she searched through her curled blonde hair to find what she was absentmindedly looking for. her fingers finally stopped, recognizing a now medium-sized scar. shaking slightly, she traced it with her index finger until words came to her. "g-get away from me." only four small words came out of edessa's mouth. she staggered backwards and sat on the bench she had been sitting at a minute ago, shifting into her rattlesnake form in an attempt to make herself as small as possible. her rattle shook slightly and she curled herself up. i've got to defend myself no matter what... edessa thought.

[googlefont="Griffy"][googlefont="Abel"] SEARCHING IN THE DARKNESS WE ARE CREATURES OF THE NIGHT RUNNING FROM THE DAY Anria felt like she was going to throw up. Edessa's voice, words, and expression were an ocean that the immobile red-head was drowning in. Tears clouded her vision and she was sinking, sinking, falling into helplessness. Anria's body clawed viciously at the ocean of blood, Edessa's blood smeared on the rocks, but there was nothing to hold onto and no strength left in her to escape. Then suddenly Anria was standing in the snow. Hot sticky guilt and panic was replaced by cold and foreboding fear. She wasn't drowning anymore but she couldn't seem to catch her breath, which came it short quiet gasps. Anria staggered backwards. Even as she lost her footing on the ice and fell to a seated position in the bright white snow, her tearing eyes remained fixed and twitching on Edessa's cowering form. Anria's mouth was parted in a silent cry. She sat like that. Even she wasn't sure how much time had passed. It could have been years and she still would have sat there gaping, weeping, head spinning. "I'm so.... s-sorry.." Her voice was cracked and barely a whisper. "Do whatever. I-I deserve it." Anria's gaze fell away to her feet and she sat defeated, swaying as though her body would fail her at any moment.

if we fall apart then it was our favorite dream Edessa sat on the bench, curled up, watching Anria's emotions unfold. It was like a movie that had no remote; she couldn't fast-forward, pause, or even stop it. Edessa had never seen Anria so apologetic, so moved by events. Anria was a sad, beautiful, tragic masterpiece, and it was coming to light right then and there. edessa debated whether or not to approach her. on one hand, she didn't want anria to suddenly lash out. on the other hand, she really wanted to help her friend. edessa hated standing around and not helping someone in need. the question, at least for edessa, was whether or not anria really needed the help. finally succumbing to her sweet, tender side, edessa shifted out of her rattlesnake form, her throat still choked up. despite her attempts to avoid doing so, she felt warm tears welling up in her eyes and trailing down her cold cheeks. she exhaled calmly, watching her breath come out due to the low temperature, and finally stood up from the bench. she slowly walked over to anria, hearing the snow crunch underneath her shoes. "I can't sit here and watch you beat yourself up. i'm still upset over what happened, in all honesty. six months of therapy doesn't even make a single stitch in fixing the hole you left in my heart. i was trying to help you, support you that day. and you hurt me mentally and physically. i don't even know who to trust anymore." edessa outstretched her arm. "despite everything i'm feeling, i'm going to try and help you again. but i don't want this to be one-sided. so take my hand, get up, and you'll help me sort out my emotions exactly like i'll help you."

[attr="class","box2"] Anria pinched her eyes shut as Edessa approached her. She knew that Skye and Laura were, gone, but Anria still felt as though Skye's anger would escape Edessa. Anria truly believed se deserved anything Edessa could do to her. In any case, she was ready for whatever happened. Almost anything. Certainly not that. She most definitely didn't diserve this kindness, and was nowhere near ready for it. Anria felt her breath hitch in her throat as Edessa began speaking. Everything she was saying was true. She hadn't been able to control herself that day, and it was no excuse. She had hurt Edessa, and nothing could make that acceptable. And yet Edessa was willing to help her? Almost hesitantly, Anria opened her eyes, but she couldn't bring herself to look up. She sat immobile for a moment, half of her wanting to lurch up into Edessa's arms and the other quite comfortable freezing in the snow. Edessa didn't really think Anria would find the strength to help her through this, did she? She could barely stand on her own legs, how could she support four? She thought more about that. They'd be supporting eachother, right? But if I really recover from this, Anria thought with a pang of panic, I'd have to go back to the way I was. This time I couldn't let myself become soft. I'd stay strong, no matter what. At last Anria looked up at Edessa. No, I can have a real friend. I can be real with her. Gingerly, as though she still wasn't sure if Edessa would bite her (not entirely unlikely, given her shift), Anria extended her own arm and took Edessa's hand. Fluidly, she found her way to her feet, and met Edessa's eyes. "I'm not... Are you sure about this?" Anria finally croaked. She looked away for a moment while she swept tears off her cheeks. "I.. I could hurt you." Even as she said it, though, she knew it wasn't possible. Anyone else, yes, but a new bond had forged between she and Edessa. Anria knew that, even though she would most certainly slip back into her facade, she would never hurt Edessa again. She would stand by her side no matter what.
