For Edessa Elridge "Stupid." She threw a rock at the large boulder before her. It felt like her billionth rock, and her shoulder ached from the effort of constantly abusing the pale white chunk of stone bulging up out of the grass a couple yards away. Anria's back was pressed against a larger boulder, and despite how cold the surface and the winter air was, she didn't mind. Her large white wings created a soft backrest on which she laid. "Stupid," she mumbled, chucking another stone. From what Anria had heard and read, this 'Haven' was where therians like herself could reside without prejudice. Bull, she had said upon first arriving, though her heart fluttered with the prospect of safety. You can't escape the prejudice. Its everywhere. It courses in the veins of every being, even if they are exactly the same as their victim. "STUPID!" Anria had thrown her last rock, and watched, half dismayed, half pleased, as it shattered into several chunks. Pulling her knees up to her chest, she whispered one more "Stupid" to herself, as though it would take away the pain, and buried her face in her arms in a lame attempt at suppressing her tears. The young girl's long, curly, crimson hair spewed over her shoulders, concealing her face from the beautiful world around her. Anria didn't want to look at how beautiful it was. She didn't think she could handle seeing the perfection when every thought running through her mind was so corrupt with regret and hurt.

Laura slithered through the woods, thinking about the previous day. She was thinking about that one coincidental meet with her neighbor, that one coincidence of a day that changed her life. But Laura still couldn't figure out if that change was for better or for worse.
Laura, that change was definitely for the better! I mean, look at you. You've got a whole new future ahead of you, now that you're not running from the HBES anymore. You don't need to worry about security cameras seeing you shift, or who's a Therian and who's not. You're going to flourish in a new community full of others just like you! Oh, shut up Edessa. Just think about how many new opportunities you'd have if you would've kept running, Laura! You could've started your own company! You could have helped other struggling souls like yourself! Laura, think of the possibilities! Alright, that's enough. Edessa, Skye, stop bickering. Danny did the right thing by giving me his ticket. It's a form of compassion- he valued my safety more than his own. It's not like I had a choice anyways on whether or not I went- the HBES would have killed me if I stayed in that city a day longer. So, sorry to end that debate, but it's a no-brainer.
"STUPID!"
L... L... Laura? What was that? I'm scared! Hide me! Stop being such a coward and beat that damn half-blood up! Skye, you're not helping! Yes, I am. I'm giving you courage and not giving you a choice about it!
Laura slithered a few feet further and saw a woman with bold red hair. She was hiding herself from the world, it seemed. It was if the woman didn't want to be seen, and didn't want to see others.
That's it, coward! I'm taking control!
The poor sixteen-year-old's eyes turned red and flared. She coiled up and her tail rattled defensively and offensively at the same time. Skye, don't do this! The poor red-head doesn't want to pick a fight with you. Laura, isn't there anything you can do? Not really, Edessa. Skye has too much power! Laura, you just need to stop being scared and defensive! Hah, like the namby-pamby could do such a thing. Now let this red-head freak attack and I'll give her a piece of my mind!

The interruption of her privacy caused Anria to turn with a start, her eyes ablaze with fury and just a sliver of curiosity. Seeing the snake didn't faze her in the least, and she simply glared this rude creature down with intense rage. "Looks like someone wants to be tied around the top branch of a tree, huh?" Anria growled, crouching down in prepared stance, ready for anything. The red-head cracked her fingers behind her back and rolled her neck in an attempt to intimidate the snake. She wasn't sure if the being was a half-blood or not, as red-eyed snakes were perfectly realistic, but she didn't really care. She needed to blow off some steam, and if this snake wanted a fight, she would gladly fly it up to the top of the cliff and theatrically drop it, watching it fall down down down, with immense glee.

"Looks like someone wants to be tied around the top branch of a tree, huh?"
LAURA, SHE'S TALKING TO US! DON'T KILL ME! I'M ONLY SIXTEEN! Oh, shut up, Edessa. We're not going to die. Are you sure about that, Skye? Look guys, I really don't want to pick any fights today. We just got here a few days ago, and I'm not one to start trouble. Laura, darling, I was so right about you being a namby-pamby. You want no trouble, yet I've already gotten you into a fight! So suck it up, deal with it, and fight this chick! You must be deaf, Skye. I just said I didn't want to get into any trouble or fights. Now get me out of this situation, Edessa! I can't! Skye is just too overpowering!
The stance of the other being frightened Laura, and now she really didn't want anything. If anything, all she wanted was to be thrown off a cliff. At least it would shut off the voices in her head.
Alright, she's cracking her fingers... And rolling her neck... SKYE, LOOK WHAT YOU'VE GOTTEN US INTO! Yes, I've gotten us into a fight that could kill us. Your issue is? MY ISSUE IS THAT WE'RE GOING TO DIE! It's a 99.9% chance! Edessa, Edessa, Edessa. Let me take advantage of that 0.01% for you, darling. Alright? No, not alright!
All of a sudden, Laura morphed into her human form. "I'm sorry!" She screamed. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I... I... I didn't mean to bug you. I just... I'm just... I'm just so alone and I hate all of the voices in my head!" Laura screamed and crouched down to the ground, covering her head with her hands, hoping the red-head Skye had once called a freak would forgive her.

The red-head watched the snake, who she could have sworn she saw an inner conflict taking place. Ready to take advantage of the hesitation, Anria was just about to leap forward and wrestle the foul thing when the snake suddenly transformed into a human being at the last moment, and she forced herself to stay still. Baffled by this girl's reaction, Anria peered down at the girl, who seemed younger than her in terms of height, even though Anria tended to be taller than most people, yet she still held every ounce of portrayed hostility. Deep down, though, Anria did want to back down and forgive the snake half-blood, to swaddle her in her arms and coo comforting words to her. A wave of remembrance, however, overpowered that consideration, smothering the kindness out of her eyes once more. "Everyone has voices in their head, kid," Anria growled, resting a shoulder against the boulder in a less intimidating demeanor. "You just need to learn to be louder."

What the hell, Laura? So all I am to you is a voice in your head? All Edessa is to you is a voice in your head? You're wrong, Laura. Edessa and I are not just voices in your head, we're parts of you. Parts of your personality, parts of who you really are! I can't believe I'm saying this, but Skye's right. Laura, we're much more than voices in your head, sweetie. No! Edessa, Skye, just no! All you are and all you'll ever be are stupid voices in my head that will prevent me from the life I've always dreamed about! The life where I'm free, and I'm not in chains controlled by you two! I am NOT your slave, I will not fall down to you! I will be free! You are NOT A PART OF ME!
All of a sudden, Laura's eyes turned a soft shade of green. It was like the color of a tree's leaves during summer- a warm, bright, stunning shade. "But they're not just voices in my head, they're parts of me. I can't be louder, because they're bolder. I can't be any more quiet than I already am, because they're the sneakiest snakes I've ever seen. They'll slither right into my mind and take away my control." Edessa forced Laura to morph into her rattlesnake form, and she slithered next to the somewhat intimidating red-haired girl. She changed into her human form, and looked up into the girl's eyes with Edessa's bold green eyes.
Laura's eye color changed back to blue as she stared at the girl, tears of anger and sadness coming to her eyes.
"They're parts of me."

Prepared to make some snappy remark about how weird and crazy her new acquaintance was, Anria stood stock still, only raising an eyebrow as the other girl drifted in and out of third or first person. Nodding slightly to show she was listening, Anria stood still as she gazed into the other girl's uniquely-changing eyes, considering what to say. Anria parted her lips to make her rude comment, but seeing the pain and pleading in the snake half-blood's eyes made her pause and reconsider her course of action. "Then why do you fight with... them?" Anria asked slowly, choosing ."her words carefully in context of what the other girl had been saying. "Become a leader. Become a team. Work together and become one person. Only then will you be able to cooperate with yourself."

The poor girl threw her head into her hands, the tears running down her wrists.
"Become a leader. Become a team. Work together and become one person. Only then will you be able to cooperate with yourself."
Great job, Laura! You're such a crybaby. And now the red-head wants to kill us even more because or your pathetic crying. So stop the tears and suck it up! Deal with your "life in chains", as you say! And Edessa, no more taking control of Laura without my permission, alright? I'm the head captain of this ship. I'm the head captain of this ship! We are not a team, because I'm the only one with the captain's hat! I'm the leader the red-head speaks of! No, no Skye! Reconsider what you're doing! I am the head control of this ship, Skye! Not you! I am the one in control! Not anymore, Crybaby Laura! I am the head captain of this ship! I AM THE HEAD CAPTAIN OF THIS SHIP!
Laura's eyes turned a bright red and she looked up at the young woman, tears staining her face. "I am the head captain of this ship!"
Skye morphed into Laura's rattlesnake form and slithered forward quickly. She attempted to slither onto the young woman's shoe and to her ankle, where she tried to bite the girl's ankle.

Anria recognized those eyes. They had been the snake's. She knew that something weird was going on, and she immediately tensed in anticipation after the girl spoke. Each tense, conflicting second seemed more difficult to handle than the last, each second of watching this half-blood suffer making Anria's ability to hold up a shield more difficult than the last. But the red-haired girl also knew how hard she had worked to construct this wall of self-preservation, building it up with one fierce moment of betrayal. She would not let anything tear her down like this, brick by brick, until she was vulnerable to friendship once again. The snake appeared suddenly, seeming completely hostile. Anria immediately slapped its head with the back of her hand, hopefully sending it away from her skin. With anger in her eyes, Anria stood, attempting to wrangle the snake by holding it under the neck and by the end of its tail, hoping to pin it to the ground in a way that it couldn't make another move of attack. "Get a grip, woman!!" Anria snarled, boring holes into the snake's eyes, glaring it down with complete defiance and a dominating stance. "Are you trying to get yourself killed? Snap out of it and TAKE PROPER CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE." The fury must of come from within, because Anria felt tears beginning to trickle down her cheek. She refused to regard them, and decided her eyes were just watering. Its not my fault she betrayed me. Its not my neglect to take control of my life before I set myself up to get hurt that placed me in pain... right?

The snake wiggled in Anria's hands, attempting to put up a fight. Its head lashed forward at the girl's hands, attempting to bite. But a part of the snake was purposefully not trying hard to bite.
SKYE! STOP! Laura, you really need to go to the gym more. I can't put up a fight this weak! Ugh... She got me! WE'RE GOING DOWN! EVERYBODY HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS! I FEEL LIKE I'M GOING TO THROW UP! Edessa, SHUT UP! Skye, we are not going to fight! That lady is scary and strong and I've decided we do not want to mess with her! Laura, that's just what I was thinking! You are so incredibly smart! Come on, Laura, let me take the reigns, okay? I promise I won't get us into trouble. You know, I was a red-head once. know what she's thinking. Oh come on, Laura! Don't let that wuss take the steering wheel! Let me do it! I'm smart too! No, Skye, you are not taking the steering wheel. You got us pinned to the ground! Now the lady's gonna kill us! Touché, darling. Come on Laura! Give me the reigns, now!
Laura's eyes turned a soft shade of green, and she looked up at the young woman.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed? Snap out of it and TAKE PROPER CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE."
Ooh. That's cold. Ouch...
Laura's eyes turned back to their normal blue color, and she morphed back into a human. "OKAY!" She started to cry. Laura attempted to break out of Anria's grasp and crawl away. Words broke through her sobs. "I'm... I'm sorry I ever bothered you." Her vision blurred and she felt lightheaded. It was hard for her to even hear her own thoughts. "I... I swear... I'll never... I'll never bother you again!" She placed her head in the fallen leaves and cried, wishing she had never came into the woods, wishing she couldn't feel anything at all.
