Ryan Snow The library was a quiet place. It was calm, intriguing, and had that irresistible paper smell that everyone seemed attracted to like bees to honey. People went there to relax, to think, to lose themselves in a great book with no distractions. Tall shelves lined the large building, closed in by pale grey walls and cheesy, outdated advertisement banners. Stoic librarians perched in their chairs, staring at the computer monitors over their stereotypical oversize glasses. It was silent other than the occasional quiet whisper, page rustling, and the clacking of a computer mouse. What a perfect place to start annoying people! A red head in a red sweater and jeans reclined with a mighty sigh into a red couch beside some young guy with pale blond hair. Rudely leaning over to see what he was doing, she stretched, making it clear that she was not being obnoxious on accident. Smirking and returning to her own personal bubble, Anria reached into her black purse to pull out her phone and a mini speaker. She took mere moments in her clearly rehearsed action of plugging in the speaker and playing a variety of globally-hated music. Anria didn't even have taste for the music. But it was fun to watch the expressions of those around her, her own little social experiment. How far could you annoy someone to the brink of fracture? What fun! |Terrible post, I'm so sorry. My cats are insane and distracting X'D|

Rhy sat silently on a scarlet sofa in the library, flipping through an old comic. It had been one of his favorites when he was younger, but it seemed all too real now. Everything reminded him of the situation he was trying desperately to forget. A society trying to repress those who were different... killing those who refused to reply... a band of odd-looking teenage misfits gathered together in search of a safe place. He sighed as he flipped the page. He continued to read until he felt breath on his ear. A girl with ginger hair was leaning over his shoulder and stretching. He rolled his eyes and went back to the novel as the girl bent down and rummaged through her bag. He didn't say anything to her until the music began playing. He tried for a minute to simply ignore it, but the annoyance grew too great to bear very quickly. Wrinkling his nose, Rhy turned to face the girl. "Could you turn that down?" He said, closing his book. "This is a library, not a place for a concert."
[Mine is much worse, and I don't even have an excuse XD]

The librarians turned, glaring, giving the briefest gesture of shaking their heads, then grudgingly returned to assisting the other customers. Anria's smirk widened, and she found herself slouching further into the sofa, hanging her head back and rolling her neck around. Out of the corner of her eye, she expertly depicted what seemed to be annoyance, and couldn't help but feel pleased. "Sorry, what?" Anria asked innocently, holding her phone up as she visibly increased the music volume. When the volume reached max and flooded the room, Anria lazily reached back and scratched under her large white wings, winking mischievously at the now-standing librarians. Seemingly enthralled by this inconsiderate brat, the ladies simply stood dumbly, clearly uncertain how to handle the situation. After all, what type of therian was this lady? Was she dangerous? With quick whispers, they fell back into their seats as Anria glared them down into submission. Task complete, the girl turned back to the other boy, her innocent smile placard to her lips.

"Sorry, what?" The girl smiled innocently towards the librarians who were glaring at her, ignoring Rhy altogether. As she turned up the volume of her music, his eyes narrowed in annoyance. Maybe if her music was any good, he might be a bit less annoyed. Probably not. She just seemed like the kind of person who could get on his nerves no matter what she did -- perhaps it was the fact that she was some kind of avian therian. He tended to dislike birds. As he pondered the girl, she turned to face him, his icy eyes locking with her darker ones. She smirked as he glared. Suddenly, it hit him. Two could play at this game, and he had a simple solution. He reached up to his ears, pulling out the small hearing aids that he wore. For once in his life, he was grateful for his crap hearing. As the music dissipated, Rhy grinned back at the girl with a silent challenge. Your move.

As Anria watched the boy's expression turn from placid annoyance to a subtle challenge. Raising an eyebrow and studying this therian over with one eye, she calmly surveyed the board. No longer were her opponent's pawns facing off in a battle for power. They had finally regrouped, found their heads, and reordered themselves in a tidy, impenetrable fashion. I've always been good at chess, she thought with a sideways glance, tossing the phone and speaker onto the cushion next to her. Turning so her back faced the other therian, Anria swung her legs up onto the sofa, leaning back in an attempt to use her current nemesis as a cozy backrest. "Checkmate."

As Rhy settled back into reading his book, he felt a pressure on his shoulder. The girl was leaning on him! The feathers of her white wings were pushing into his face and tickling his ear.
"Checkmate." He sniffed in frustration, and then silently shifted into his animal form. He hoped that the girl would fall backwards as he jumped from the couch. He then hopped up onto the girl's lap, smugly licking his paw.

The girl did, in fact, topple backwards with the sudden absence of a backrest. Huffing in frustration, Anria scurried back up into a sitting posture. A cat, she thought with a mild twinge of instinctual fear. Great. Explains why he's so stubborn. Anria watched in surprise as the white cat leaped up onto her lap, seemingly oblivious to her presence, and arrogantly began licking his paw. "Now that's just weird," Anria commented, raising a red eyebrow. Attempting to take the cat's scruff firmly in her hand, Anria made an effort to throw the therian off onto the couch. Man-handling other therians without consent was highly discouraged, and this action of hers received several horrified looks. Anria smiled to those people, nodded her head in a mild bow, and turned her full attention back to her opponent.

As Rhy continued to lick his paw, he felt something grip the scruff of his neck. He yowled as he was flung across the room, going limp just before he hit the floor. He quickly recovered and morphed back into his human form, sitting up to see the girl smirking back at him. "Touché," he muttered, acknowledging her hit. Rhy hated brawling under normal conditions, but this was more than just a fist fight. It was a battle of skill and wits. There could be a bruise or two as a result, but in the aftermath, the biggest injury would be to one's pride. Now he just had to think of a response before she could attack again.

Feeling proud of her current victory, Anria pushed herself off the sofa, approaching her opponent both cautiously and mockingly. She would have loved to continue the little feud - it was nice to have a worthy opponent once in a while - however she felt far too kind following her encounter with Laura. That girl reminded Anria too much of herself, and it had taken it's toll on her. Anria thrust her hand out, a gesture to both help the feline therian to his feet and to shake on the conclusion of the battle. "It's been a while since I've had a fair fight," she said calmly, clasping her hands behind her back. "I'm Anria."

While Rhy was still down on the ground, the girl strode towards him. He looked up to her as she thrust out a hand to help him up. He reluctantly accepted it and pulled himself up from the floor. Rhy's adversary began to speak, which made him quickly remember taking out his hearing aids at the beginning of their fight. He watched the redhead's red lips, trying to pick up a few words, as he slid his hand into his pocket to pull out the little gadgets. Something something fight, I'm... something staring with Ah? A sudden wave of sound washed over Rhy as he returned the aids to their proper place. "Uh, sorry," he said, glancing at the girl, "but I didn't get a word of that. Did you say your name was... Annika? I'm Rhy."
