"Cecil..." "U-um.. Yes?" Did he say something wrong? Cecil was a little confused on how things were going between him and the girl. "My name is Anria." "Anria..? It's nice to meet you, Anria." he said in a loud tone so that she could hear him and that he wouldn't have to yell for her to here him. Cecil watched her descend at her own pace and he looked down at the flowers, clutching them and thinking about what happened. He lifted his gaze from the flowers onto Anria and said, "... My friends.." He nearly choked when saying that. The boy started sniffling and he tried to start again. "They were killed by h-humans.. They were half-bloods.. and they didn't do anything wrong! They were just innocent children!" Cecil yelled at Anria and his green eyes flared with rage. His green eyes softened not long after that, and he wrapped his arms around the flowers and held them close to his chest. "I... I'm sorry, Anria. I didn't mean to yell.." Cecil let a couple tears slip and roll down his cheeks. He didn't mean to yell at her. He was just overwhelmed by it all. It was something that he would never forget but he had to learn to move on as well.

Perhaps she lost her ability to numb herself against the pain. Perhaps she was still just too weak from her encounter with Laura earlier on. But Anria felt an overwhelming sense of pity clench a fist around her lungs, forcing her to hold her breath. After a few seconds, the young woman silently opened her wings and drifted the rest of the way to the ground, standing feet away from Cecil when she landed. Lowering her gaze to the ground, she felt herself fill with, what she would call weakness, what was actually sadness and compassion. Suddenly, without even realizing what she was doing, Anria took two more steps forward, closing the distance between her and Cecil, and attempted to pull the boy into an embrace. Her heart ached for him, as she felt as though she were in his place, relieving those moments, way back when. "I'm sorry,"she whispered.

At the time, Cecil had a choice to make. His father wanted him to join the HBES when he was old enough. Cecil's younger brother, Cyril, wanted to train to join the HBES. Cyril wanted more attention from his father, and his father convinced him that the HBES was doing the right thing. Cecil refused once again especially since his father was behind the work of taking the lives of Cecil's only friends. Half-bloods were kind to Cecil when his own kind wasn't. Maybe that was the reason why but Cecil knew who he was. He probably wouldn't have changed much if that didn't happen. Cecil's heart skipped a beat as he was pulled into an embrace by the girl. Anria was kind and warm. Cecil was hesitant as he looped his arms around her waist, trying to be careful so he didn't accidentally touch her wings. He figured by the way she was acting earlier- that she had a flighty kind of nature like a bird. He didn't want to scare her off if he made the wrong move. "O-oh.. You don't have to be sorry. It'll be... Okay."

Anria stood there, in Cecil's embrace, more for her own comfort than his. Regaining her composure, however, and realizing that it might have been uncomfortable for Cecil to hug a random stranger with wings, Anria took a few paces back, clearing her throat and clasping her hands in front of her to show she hadn't been scared away. She was quiet for a few moments, then "My family died," she admitted, finding it difficult to squeeze the words out. Tears immediately sprung to her eyes, and she wiped them away quickly as to hide her sadness. It was in vain, however, for Anria's voice began to shake as she spoke. "It's kinda a common theme, though, and it's probably... it was more my fault them anyone else's." The red-head shrugged, but realizing she might be insensitive, quickly corrected herself. "Sorry, I uh... I didn't mean that it was uh... I didn't mean they were less... ugh, you know what I mean?" She looked up helplessly, struggling more on her words than she had in years, at at the moment she wasn't sure why.

Cecil didn't want the warm feeling to disappear. It made him feel safe and calm. It was like the comfort he refused to receive from his little sister, Cecelia. He hated himself for pushing her away when she was also going through a hard time. He just wanted to be alone at the time and ended up hurting Cecelia's feelings. Cecelia never blamed him, though. That made him feel like an even bigger jerk. She was just trying to help and be a good sister. Cecil watched as Anria let go of him and stepped away from him. "Anria.. I'm sorry." Look who was saying sorry now for no reason. It wasn't his fault after all. Cecil just felt sorry for her and what she had lost. Surely, she had endured much more than him. It was heart aching. Cecil began to go in a panic of worry when Anria started to cry and wiped her tears away. She was being strong for so long. Cecil wanted to embrace her like she had done for him but he wasn't sure if she left him because she was starting to feeling uncomfortable..? "Y-yeah... Anria! Please, don't cry. I mean, you can if you want to but I didn't mean to make you... Erm.. Would you like to come with me?" Cecil hoped that he could lighten up the mood a bit with a goofy grin on his face. "I can just imagine the look on their faces as children. They would idolize you."

Shrugging again, Anria flicked away Cecil's pity. Her ability to ignore her pain was returning, and she felt herself feeling less dependent on his compassion. Nevertheless, as unusual as it was for her, Anria remained kind. She even kind of giggled when Cecil stumbled on making a point about her crying, and then made that stupid smile. Then he made some comment about other people, and Anria immediately tensed at the thought of other humans. "Who? Go where?" She was genuinely confused, trying to decipher where Cecil wanted her to go with him.

"My friends. I thought they would like you because you're kind and you're one of them." Did he say something wrong? Cecil still felt bad about not doing anything. It wasn't like for him to not give her a hug. He just didn't want to screw it up and have her scared of him. Cecil was trying so hard to figure her out so maybe they could be friends. "That's if you want to come along. I won't force you. I just thought the company would be nice. You are good company."

"Oh," she whispered to herself in response, blushing slightly. She had never been told she was good company, and it sent warm chills down her arms and legs. Finding it within her to smile, shrug, and nod, Anria made it clear that she would join him. "You know, you're the first human I've talked to in... a long time. Two years, I think." She thought of her best friend, the one that had betrayed her secret, why they were all dead, all of them, dead and in the ground, burned alive. She pinched her eyes shut for a moment, fondling a strand of long grass between her fingers until the memories subsided like the tide. "Sorry, not that humans are bad... well... you seem like a good guy... Sorry." She felt she had offended him by addressing him by his species, and she cast him an apologetic glance before returning her attention to the land before her.

Anria was more than just good company. She did more for Cecil than she would know. Cecil was going to return home and give Cecelia a big hug. He owed her yet another big apology for being such a terrible brother and not being there for her when the family was tearing apart. Cecil was so wrapped up in everything that happened and his younger brother that swore he would kill him the next time he saw him. It didn't occur to him that Cecelia could have helped him back then. She would have and he ignored her. Cecil marched on forward and turned around, grinning back at Anria. "Well then," he began and walked over to her, extending out his arm so she could take his hand. "let's go~" He would take her to the place where he used to play in the forest as a child with his friends. Cecil tilted his head and blinked his eyes at Anria.
"Really..?" he listened to Anria and chuckled. "Don't apologize. Thanks for the compliment? Y'know, I don't understand why my kind is so against yours. You guys did nothing wrong- erm.. before we go to the place, I want to tell you that my father and my younger brother are involved with the HBES. I.. I don't blame you if you don't want to go any further with me. I just thought I would tell you now so that you wouldn't think I was keeping it a secret. But, I promise that I have nothing to do with the HBES, my father, or Cyril." Cecil didn't want to tell her but he also didn't want her to think he was keeping it from her like he was waiting to make a sneak attack on her. He wanted her to be able to trust him, and he would understand if she didn't feel comfortable being around him anymore especially after finding out about some of his family taking part in the HBES.

A cold fear almost struck Anria down right then and there. She unknowingly squeezed Cecil's hand a little to tight at the mention of the group, and she took a shaky breath. Though he seemed well aware of how terribly the HBES had impacted therians, she had the feeling that he didn't truly grasp the weight of devastation they had caused, how many lives had been ruined and taken. True, she argued with herself, they might have killed his friends, but did he realize that they forced therians to watch as their parents and siblings were burned, gutted, and tarred alive? That little to no one escaped their hands? Anria squeezed Cecil's hand again as her fingers went cold with fear. Her eyes were trailing in the dirt, but her legs continued to move at his pace. The girl said nothing, only nodded and licked her lips. As she walked, she contemplated how history repeated itself. It was a thought that frequently crossed her mind, but was an essential one nonetheless. The Crusades, black rights and gay rights movements, the Holocaust... the list was exceptionally long. Though something she found interesting was that those kinds of events only occurred for a duration, however short, while therians had been prosecuted for centuries, as long as they had existed. The HBES had made an effort to make everything think therians were nothing more than a myth and a monstrosity, as terrifying and unbelievable as ghosts, zombies, vampires, werewolves - well, werewolves, in some sense, were real, so that didn't count. But still, Anria thought, why?
