"Well, this is a useless building." Her disgruntled voice echoed about the vacant church. Anria took a few agonizingly slow paces forward, her black heeled combat boots sending rhythmic pulses of noise ricocheting against the gray stone walls until she stopped, suddenly, in the middle of the isle. Her teal-blue eyes drifted about the building as she gingerly moved a piece of spearmint gum from one side of her mouth to the other. "Just an empty building." She shook her head at the stained glass windows, greened with age, and hefted her black jeans higher up on her hips, then pulled the sleeves of her black blouse down around her wrists. The emptiness of the place was strangely soothing. It was calming, tranquil, deliberately holy. Anria found its persistent serenity an inconsiderate nuisance. A new sound of footsteps, however distant, was picked up by the therian's heightened senses. She turned on her heels, hands on hips, and observed the entrance in anticipation of a newcomer. Anria brushed a lock of naturally red hair behind her ear as a figure appeared before her. "Though not as empty as it would seem."

Do you ever read or see something so disgusting and sinful, that you feel like you need to go to church right away? And then just stay there for a year? Yeah. That's what P.J. was doing. He had never thought he could ever be ashamed of what he read, which was mostly in the violent, gory, horror genre.
That's a giant load of crap, and you know it. I just want a new quiet place to finish reading Carrie. It just happens to be ironic that I want to read Carrie in a church.
P.J. wasn't expecting to meet anyone, so he didn't care to put in his contacts or even fix his hair. Honestly, he looked like he just like he got out of bed, which really wasn't that far off from the truth. All he did was put on red skinny jeans, a grey sweatshirt and black high tops. And of course, his black rectangle specs.
Peej was just about 40 feet away from the door, when his increased hearing picked up a voice.
"Just an empty building. Though not as empty as it would seem."
P.j walked into the church to face a dark red-haired young woman. She looked older than him for sure, but P.J. couldn't even estimate how much older she was. She was taller than him, which wasn't surprising to P.J., everyone was taller than him. Her hands were on her hips, a sign of intimidation.
You fool. Nothing can intimidate me.
The small teen put on his most fake smile, and sarcastically replied, "Congratulations, you acknowledged my presence!" He walked over to a pew and sat down with his book. "I'll be quiet, I promise." P.J. continued, now genuine.

A boy with glasses. A mundane boy with glasses. Anria scoffed at how normal it was, turning on her heel once more with an exasperated shake of her head and roll of her eyes. Crossing her arms as she stood at the center of the church, gazing up at the walls. She found herself wondering, as she tilted her head to the side to study the walls from a different angle, what it would be like to simply fly up there, perch on the highest rafter, and crap all over it. Then again, as stupid as she found it, Anria knew that people found the church to be a highly respected place, and for once in her life restricted herself from performing such actions. Anria had been quiet for some time, but finding the presence of another being intolerable at the moment, she grumbled out the simple question, "And you are?"

"And you are?"
Why can't I just read this book, lady?! Is silence not enough for you?
P.J set down his book, and looked up at the woman once again. His fake smile reappeared on his face as he introduced himself. "P.J. Herzfeld, at your service," he bowed at an angle. "You can call me Peej. Can you tell me your name quickly so I can get back to my book?"
He knew well enough that he might have just made an enemy by being rude. P.J. didn't care. He never did. He didn't care if she liked him being rude or if she thought he was inconsiderate.
Peej just wanted to get back to his book.

Anria raised an eyebrow. Cocking her head to the side again as she gazed at him, she smirked. Finally! Someone to torture! Life has been so... bland lately. "Are you a religious man, Peej?" Her smirk broadened as she took slow stepps back towards the boy. When she reached where he was sitting, she took a seat next to him, looking forward once again at the room. "Do you believe that you're protected?"

"Are you a religious man, Peej?"
Oh my GOD. Will you shut up?
Peej tried his best to ignore her and block out any other questions she had. Turns out it's really hard to block out someone if you have abnormally good hearing. P.J's eyebrows furrowed in frustration, desperate to just read his damn book.
But then she sat down next to him.
"Do you believe that you're protected?"
I don't believe you are from me. You better watch out, I'm one question away from e-x-p-l-o-d-i-n-g.
The small teen set his bookmark in place and put away his book. Obviously, she wasn't going to leave him alone. She probably was doing this on purpose, but Peej wasn't going to let her win.
He cleared his throat, and frustratedly reminded her, "I've told you my name. Now may I have the 'pleasure' of knowing yours?"

Anria turned, giving him a sickly sweet smile, then continued on her little voyage of torture. "I think we all have the same story: Everyone we love dies; the end. Then we go off on one of two choices. One: we take up or continue a faith, despite everything. Two: we drop or continue to despise faith because we realize that how can any God or Gods let something so terrible happen to us, to so many people, and never lend a reason?" Anria closed her eyes, taking a breath of the musty air, turning it in her lungs, then exhaled as she opened her eyes to look at Peej. ""I've always found faith, religion, to be a waste of our already scarce time. I suppose some would call me a sinner, looking back at some of the things I've done, the things I still do?" Anria smirked, shrugged. "Now I ask again: are you a religious man?"

Wow.
P.J's eyebrows lifted in surprise. He hadn't expected this mysterious woman to strike up a meaningful conversation. He sat back against the pew, crossing his arms, deep in thought about what she said.
"Hah, you're right. Religious people are only people looking for an excuse for everything. And yet...they have no proof of any of their beliefs!" Peej agreed, leaning forward and opening up his arms. "I'm not the type of guy who lets some higher being tell me what's right and wrong."
I bet she's frustrated that her plan to torture me has gone awry. She's only captured my interest.

The young woman raised an eyebrow and turned her head to look at Peej, surprised at how readily he accepted her thoughts. Nodding in approval, Anria reflected on whether he was toying with her or genuinely curious. Lately she had been meeting people left and right, each taking a different toll on her ability to maintain 'tough' throughout circumstances. Laura had stirred up her weakness, compassion, while a human named Cecil had favored her pity and a mutant Asriel reminded her how inferior she and the other therians were to the HBES. In any case, taking an option in his favor, Anria stuck out a hand to shake, her smirk still present. "I'm Anria; white hawk. You've got a good head on your shoulders and some justified opinions. Not too shabby."

Finally, her name.
P.J. shook her hand gently, smirking softly. "Vampire bat. Nice to have your acquaintance." he said, raising an eyebrow in interest. "You're not too bad yourself."
Crap, now I have to get a conversation going.
The teen hesitated for a second before finally asking, "So, Anria. Why are you here in this desolate church? Are you only here to mock the very meaning of this building?"
